Cantilever lover for me
Can you counter all the pull of gravity
Cantilever lover so sweet
Will you carry and support the weight of being
Seems all my life’s a search to find
Someone straight to keep me aligned
You’re sound and wise and right on time
No one’s perfect but we’re perfect you and I
Cantilever lover let’s be
And we’ll make our strong foundation firm as steel
Cantilever lover of mine
And we’ll balance all the stress that life may find
Seems all my life’s a search to find
Someone straight to keep me aligned
You’re sound and wise and right on time
No one’s perfect but we’re perfect you and I
These armatures and beams
And trusses buttress you to me
Keep us even and free
Seems all my life’s a search to find
Someone straight to keep me aligned
You’re sound and wise and right on time
No one’s perfect but we’re perfect you and I
Cantilever lover indeed
If I start to fall please catch me if I need
Cantilever lover for me
Will you prop me as I hang, hold tight to me

Man In The Middle

Man In The Middle
Breaking bread at dinner was King David and two saints
Saint Michael, Saint Peter, talking all about their faith
David turned to Peter, said, you’re looking good old friend
Pete replied, I almost died, I thought it was the end
No one wanted you- he said, your journey isn’t through
Heaven has a waiting list and Hell there is no room
When we go…Is it up or down below?
Stuck in the middle
I’m a man who doesn’t know…man in the middle
When we die… Is it down or to the sky?
Always a riddle
Until I find out why, I’m… A man in the middle
A man…man in the middle
Don’t deserve the company of Mother Teresa
Don’t belong with Hitler or the Fascist creeps and scum
Never felt saintly enough to climb to Heaven’s gate
But to descend the steps of Hell just cannot be my fate
When we go…Is it up or down below?
Stuck in the middle
I’m a man who doesn’t know… man in the middle
When we die… Is it down or to the sky?
Always a riddle
Until I find out why, I’m… A man in the middle
A man…man in the middle
Seems we’re never good enough to ever please the boss
Yet we’re never bad enough to be canned and get tossed
Always someone higher up saying you’re not good enough
Seems at times life is unfair…. so often it is tough
One thing that is certain when the curtain falls
as it’s untethered the next stop will be better
When we go…Is it up or down below?
Stuck in the middle
I’m a man who doesn’t know… man in the middle
When we die… Is it down or to the sky?
Always a riddle
Until I find out why, I’m… A man in the middle
A man…man in the middle, A man…man in the middle

The Lonely Lightningbug

The Lonely Lightningbug, words and music by Drew Brightbill
As evening air wanes, slowly fades- periwinkle to slate
My brethren ignite in yellow- incendiary bursts glow
With two orbs contending- as summer gloaming goes dark
The sky is alive with- lonely explosions of sparks
This beacon of green shines off pier of my heart in distress
A signal that’s calling revealing my loneliness
Could it be so easy to simply switch on my light
To show you the way here- and proof of my hurt inside
I am the lonely lightningbug- burning tonight
Am I the only shining one- with a green light
To tell you go
Who needs bursting fireworks- when you have fireflies
To teach and learn of bugs and birds- when they’re alive with desire
The warbling of birds chirp- sweet songs in deep symphony
And all around life thrives- and all the while just a love story
I am the lonely lightningbug- burning tonight
Am I the only shining one- with a green light
To tell you go
